Wellness & Prevention

At Wellness Animal Hospital, we take a comprehensive approach to your pet’s preventive care.

Physical exams

The basis for all veterinary medicine is the nose-to-tail physical exam and palpation. Our veterinarians will manually and visually assess your pet’s body systems, including their skin, teeth, eyes, ears, heart, lungs, abdominal organs, and joints, to identify disease, pain, injury, weakness, or deterioration. Our veterinarians will review any significant findings with you and may suggest additional diagnostics. Our senior pets are so precious to us that we often recommend a physical exam every six months due to fast changes in their health once they reach their golden years.

Vaccinations

Vaccines help your pet’s immune system recognize and respond to communicable diseases, from influenza to deadly rabies. We’ll recommend specific vaccine protocols based on your pet’s age, health, and lifestyle. +

Heartworm testing

Heartworm disease is a preventable but deadly condition affecting dogs and cats. This disease is transmitted by infected mosquitoes, and affects pets in all 50 states. Annual heartworm disease screening tests are a simple and fast way to identify circulating heartworms, as break-through infections can occur with as little as one missed dose. Once your pet’s test confirms they are heartworm-free, we will recommend year-round heartworm prevention. +

Fecal parasite testing

Dogs and cats can harbor intestinal parasites, including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, giardia, and coccidia—some of which can be transmitted to other pets and human household members. Annual screening tests look for parasite eggs in your pet’s stool, and any diagnosed infections are treated with deworming medications.  +

Additional care services

Our team can provide convenient pet care services, including ear cleaning, nail trims, and anal sac expression. We can also demonstrate how to perform basic care tasks at home, including how to give or apply medication, perform trim nails, and brush your pet’s teeth. +

Client education

Effective preventive care relies on being an informed pet owner, and at Wellness Animal Hospital we are committed to providing you with the knowledge and tools you need to ensure your pet’s lifelong health. We take our time to ensure you understand your pet’s condition, care needs, and behavior. If you ever have any questions, we encourage you to contact us. +

On-site pharmacy

Our fully-stocked hospital pharmacy can fill the most common pet prescriptions, allowing you to pick up your pet’s medications during their appointment so they can feel better quickly. We also offer our recommended heartworm, flea, and tick preventives, and our most popular veterinary prescription diets. +
